I'll Tell You What It's About

BCS

Wow. Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl on January 3. We missed out on our shot at a Big 12 Championship, but we still get a chance to redeem the 1968 team. Awesome.

Hey, I'm all sorry and stuff for Mizzou, but I don't need to listen to the nationals trash my team. We carried that undefeated target in a BCS conference twelve weeks. Everyone knew we had injuries and no one made excuses. We played just three games in Lawrence in October and November. We ended with a virtual road game at Arrowhead and Mizzou nailed us. Good for them. We lost and we assumed our best bowl opportunity was the Cotton Bowl. It started to shake out a little different during the week, so Mizzou knew the score going into last night's game. Again, I'd still trade the Orange Bowl for a chance to have played in San Antonio last night.

Bottom line. We had a great season. We're going to take our BCS bid and enjoy it. This is a chance to make a statement for next year.

Congratulations KU. I guess beating the BCS system (earning a BCS bid in spite of a schedule that avoided tough non-conference games like Illinois, not winning the north division and finishing 8th to Missouri's 6th place ranking in the BCS) proves that the Hawks can beat the 'B' jinx. You kicked some BCS butt. Bucknell & Bradley got nothing on the Hawks now!

1) What comes around goes around with the bowl system. Locked out last year, trips to Hawaii in 1992 and 1995 (we were 10-2 in 1995). This year the BCS shined on the Hawks, next time it's close we'll get hosed. Everyone gets bent over eventually.

2) There's really only one game that matters after early December. The BCS letters are nice, but really if you're not in the NC you're NIT*.

3) I can see how the BCS didn't want to punish a one-loss team. It would have looked odd to have KU outside of the top five bowls. No reason to punish KU because Mizzou is in awe of a team that couldn't handle Tech or Colorado. MU was supposed to win so maybe next time don't smack talk OU for half a season.

4) I appreciate the comments, but can we keep hoops out of it? There are plenty of KU hoops blogs out there.

*See, now you got me talkin' in basketball terms.

Doug, I won't enjoy the Cotton Bowl as much as I enjoyed watching Mizzou take down KU at Arrowhead. Following DJ's 'logic' I guess that means Kansas was in awe of Missouri since they easily handled Tech and Colorado. Oh wait, I shouldn't say that - it just sounds like whining right?

"I guess that means Kansas was in awe of Missouri since they easily handled Tech and Colorado."

I wouldn't call it whining. I'd call it pointing to the scoreboard, which is valid. Head to head is what counts in a rivalry. Mizzou has two in a row on us and I'm not enjoying that at all. I'd trade places in a heartbeat.
