With the addition of Jon Watts and talk of the hybrid position, this got really complex. Things should be maybe a little more clear this evening after the open practice, but I'll give this a stab. My original thoughts were that these three would be the starters in the fall --

Arist Wright, Justin Springer, Steven Johnson

Looking at the hybrid, I'd say the guys to look at there would be Quigley, Wright and Oguntodu -- though Watts is listing a pretty fast 40 time for an LB

For the big inside linebacker, KU really only has Springer, but maybe the days of the 240 lb are gone for the Big 12. Or maybe Steven Johnson is bulking up. There are a lot of guys that can compete at the standard OLB position.

Anyway, I guess I just can't actually come up with a two-deep. Watts and Quigley would be logical to be in there somewhere, but really they are total unknowns. I really think Jake Schermer could figure in because he got a lot of experience a couple of years ago. So, I guess I defer until a later date.

Like you, I just don't know.

Springer and Wright seem like shoe-ins (assuming Justin comes back plenty heathy). But after that i really don't know. I'm not sure Dakota Lewis has the tools, but they really seem to trust him on special teams. And I'm pretty positive Quigley has the tools, but I have a hard time believing they trust him yet.

And then there's Johnson, Oguntodu and now Watts. But really, we don't know much at all about any of them either. There is a ton of potential in our LB corps, but a whole shit ton of unknowns as well...

At the WOLB it's Wright with Lewis as the backup.
At the MLB spot it's Springer with Johnson or Foster as the backup.
The SOLB will come down to Quigley or Watts.
Watts has great closing speed he'll be by far the fastest LB KU has.
Watts is really only about 6-0 and 220 but his speed is good enough to be the hybrid.
Check him out

Good video -- looks like Jon Bon can play.

I see you have Johnson moving inside. I can see that. Can't wait to get out and see how these guys are doing. Too bad practice was cancelled today.

It'll be fun to check back to this thread in a few weeks.
