KU Memorial Stadium To Offer Luxury Seats

Tom Keegan is reporting that KU will add luxury seating the south end zone area of Memorial Stadium. I have not yet received the William's Fund Letter, but this is definitely an intriguing project:

The plan calls for the 56-seat section to include 22 flat-screen televisions, an exclusive hospitality area with complimentary beverages and upscale buffets, and luxury chair-back seating.

Report of KU Football Verbal: Darian Kelly

The MorningSun.net is reporting that Darian Kelly (6-2/195/4.5) of Girard, Kansas has commited to play safety and possibly wideout for Mark Mangino and the Kansas Jayhawks.

“They asked which one I would rather do but I love playing defense,” Kelly said. “I may be a Aqib Talib and play both sides of the ball .. at least that is what they tell me.”

K-State Fan Lands Job With Emporia Gazette

Read the full results here: http://www.emporiagazette.com/news/2008/jun/04/waiting_football/

Excerpts below:

"Todd Reesing is a serviceable QB"

Umm ... okay

"KU’s losses on defense have left some glaring holes"

Gee, I thought it was the offensive tackle positions that were the real concern. Michael will be crying in his power towel when he realizes the 2008 KU defense will be better than the 2007 version.

"K-State has some capable playmakers (Josh Freeman, Ian Campbell, Josh Moore), but those playmakers have to produce even more this season, and they have to mesh well with the incoming junior college talent."

Sounds simple enough.

"If that happens, K-State should find its way back into the bowl picture"

Buying out the home game with Fresno State should help as well.

Thursday Recycle: Bo Pelini Hates K-State + DVD University

Rock Chalk Talkin' Football | There's been a new emphasis on football at RockChalkTalk.com. Here's a primer on the QBs plus a look at Florida International. My take is that Kerry Meier is a pretty good quarterback -- would hate to lose him at wideout.

James McClinton Game Worn Jersey | Link to the auction

Aqib Talib Game Worn Jersey | $210 for shipping seems a little steep. Here's the link.

DVD University
| Saw it on the Grid. Here's a little something for your Christmas wish list: http://www.snyderbowlsdvd.com/

(also from the grid) I don't think this guy is going to buy the the DVD:

Sound and the Fury: Third Down

Is it acceptable to stand on first and second down for defense or will we always be a third down school?

Two questions there. The first answer is yes and the second is I certainly hope not. It's a tough issue though. I'm still waiting for the Lew Perkin's Select-A-Seat plan that incorporates sections based on age and willingness to stand up and scream for the defense. Every year as KU fans settle into new digs I wait for the inevitable confrontations that can escalate between older fans that either refuse or are unable to stand up for a defensive series and the hardcore blue fans.

Still, there are a lot of able-bodied fans that tend to sit on their hands on first and second down. I'm not sure I get this. You don't have to be a "face-painter" to support the team, but getting up and making noise on defense has an impact on the game. Sometimes it may be subtle and sometimes maybe not. The general idea is to rattle the opponent and we better have our game on as fans next year when Memorial will see a greater share of quality teams. It should be rockin' for every down on defense.

Big 12 North Football Recruiting

New Recruiting Tracker

Today you'll find a new section in the left navigation bar for Big 12 North Recruiting. Basically, it endeavors to track all of the North recruits and assign the HDr rating system to players from our division rivals. All six teams have their own link from the expandable main section.

This will be an interesting item to track as I've found that Mizzou is tearing it up on the recruiting trail and the page is three players out of date. All over pages are current. More details will fill in on those pages, but we were anxious to launch.

Trinity DB Prinz Kande Commits to KU

Looks like KU picked another talented player from Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. Rivals is reporting that DB Prinz Kande (5-11/182/4.5) has verbally committed to Mark Mangino and the Kansas Jayhawks. Kande rates a 33.3 on the Hawk Digest (Hdr) scale. Video is available on the Trinity High football page (scroll down). KU received a verbal commit from Trinity's Earnest Norman (LB) just last week.

More On Don Fambrough From A Sporting News Blog -- Brian Wheeler

“You read about how they’re calling this the Missouri-Kansas Showdown,” he said. “Showdown (expletive)! It’s (expletive) war!

“They started the war! They sent that (expletive) (William) Quantrill over here! That (expletive) killed all the men, raped all the women, burned the town down!

“It’s war!,” Fambrough used to scream to his players in the locker room before taking the field. “They started the damn war, and Quantrill was a Missouri alum!”

Chasing A.R. "Bert" Kennedy: Mark Mangino Closes In

Mark_Mangino_2006vsCU_MANGINO.jpg
www.annependleton.com

Thought we'd check in on the all-time win list (below) for Kansas football coaches. Mark Mangino currently holds a tie for fourth with Don Fambrough at 37 wins. I think it'll be over for Don in week one. The reality is third place is pretty much a lock and  Mangino has a pretty legitimate shot at #2 ... all he has to do is duplicate last year's record. Final summation: start interviewing statue makers.

Other Notes of Interest:

--Three of the top six KU coaches have losing records
--We sure don't talk about A.R. Kennedy enough
--KU has a great history in football. Until last year though you just couldn't call it a "recent" history. When Kennedy finished up in 1910, KU had an all-time record of 126-46-10
